6 Tips On How To Relieve Bunion Pains

 

A bunion is an abnormality of the foot where the joint to the big toe tends deviate outwards. Some patients may have no problems with their bunions, but for people who do, even the slightest bunion pain can be irritating.

1.       Reduce weight. Losing a few pounds is a great way to reduce stress on your feet. Bunions can get easily irritated if exposed to stress, especially being overweight.




2.       Avoid activities that can trigger bunion pain.  Examples of these are running, jogging or any exercise that involves excessive use of your feet. But this does not mean you should not exercise. Swimming is a good alternative as well as cycling.

3.       Medication. Over the counter pain relievers like ibuprofen, aspirin, or acetaminophen can help temporarily relieve acute bunion pain.

4.       Apply ice directly on the painful bunion. Cold stimuli can cause a numbing effect on any painful area. Get a bucket and fill it half full with ice water, add more ice cubes if needed. Dip the affected foot and feel instant relief.

5.       Wear shoes with wide toe box. These shoes are wide around the area where the toes are, which is wonderful for people who have bunions because there is less compression around the bunion area.

6.       Bunion gel pads. These pads are placed directly over the bunion before wearing shoes to prevent irritation from scratches within shoes or accidental bumps.
